Meerut Public School, Main Wing organised the VII Dr. D. P. Singh Memorial Inter-School English Debate Competition on 21st August 2026 at the MPS Convention Hall for students of Classes IX–XII.
The annual competition is held in memory of Late Dr. D. P. Singh, who served as Head of the Chemistry Department at Meerut Public School, Main Wing, for twelve years. An accomplished educator and scholar with a Ph.D. in Chemistry and several published research papers, Dr. Singh was deeply respected for his subject expertise and dedication to teaching. His legacy of learning continues through his daughter, Dr. Shalini Dhama.
The seventh edition brought together young speakers from 12 schools across Meerut to deliberate on the topic, “Should schools give equal importance to physical health, mental well-being, and academic excellence?” The debate encouraged participants to examine different perspectives, construct reasoned arguments and respond thoughtfully to opposing viewpoints.
The programme was graced by Mrs. Kusum Shastri, President & Co-Founder, MPS Group; Ms. Dimple Singh, Exam Controller, MPS Group; Lt. Col. Pramod Singh Attri, Head Administrator, MPS Group; and Special Guest Dr. Shalini Dhama, Assistant Professor, Department of Fine Arts, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.
The judging panel comprised Adv. Asmita Tagore, advocate, psychologist, mediator and trainer specialising in family law and dispute resolution; Dr. Madhuri Gupta, Managing Director and CEO, World Forum for Innovation & Industry, with extensive experience in innovation, entrepreneurship and strategic partnerships; and Ms. Sarabjit Ghuman, an experienced educator with a 34-year association with Sophia Girls’ School, Meerut Cantt.
The young debaters presented their arguments with clarity and confidence, supported by research and logical reasoning. The rebuttal round further challenged them to analyse opposing arguments, think spontaneously and respond effectively, adding an engaging dimension to the competition.
