VI Dr. D.P. Singh Memorial Interschool English Debate

“It is better to debate a question without settling it, than to settle a question without debating it.” – Joseph Joubert

With words sharper than swords and ideas stronger than steel, the Convention Hall of Meerut Public School, Main Wing echoed with intellect, passion, and eloquence on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, as the school proudly hosted the VI Dr. D. P. Singh Memorial Inter-School English Debate. The prestigious event, a tribute to the indomitable legacy of the visionary educationist Dr. D. P. Singh, brought together some of the finest young minds of the district in a battle of wit and wisdom.

The programme began on an auspicious note with reverence to Lord Ganesh, as the day coincided with Ganesh Chaturthi. A solemn tribute was also offered to the revered Founder Chairman, Late Mr. Tara Chand Shasti. The gathering was then enchanted by a soulful instrumental musical medley by the school band, which set the tone for an inspiring day of discourse.

The distinguished Chief Guest for the day was Ms. Shalini Singh, daughter of Late Dr. D. P. Singh. The panel of judges comprised Dr. Madhu Bala Sharma, Associate Professor & HOD, Management Department, MIET Meerut; Mr. Rajeev Gupta, CA, MBA (Finance), Former Chairman of Meerut Branch CIRC; and Prof. Rajeshwar Pal Chauhan, Department of Language, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University. Mr. Vikramjeet Singh Shastri, Managing Director, MPS (Group), also graced the occasion. All the esteemed guests were warmly welcomed by Dr. Alka Srivastava Gaur, Principal, Meerut Public School, Main Wing.

This year’s competition witnessed the enthusiastic participation of many reputed schools from across the district of Meerut, with students vying for top honours in two categories:
• Category I (Classes IX & X): “President Donald Trump’s Tariff Policies are undermining Global Free Trade Norms”
• Category II (Classes XI & XII): “India is on the path of becoming a global superpower by 2047”

The young debaters in Category I impressed the gathering with their awareness of global economic issues, examining free trade and tariff wars with remarkable clarity. In Category II, the speakers presented thought-provoking perspectives on India’s rise as a global power, balancing optimism with realism. Both categories witnessed a blend of passion, research, and rhetoric that kept the audience spellbound.
