CURRICULUM

CURRICULUM : MAPPED TO NCFSE
Balvatika: Laying the Foundation

Bal Vatika, which translates to children's garden in Hindi, is a preschool program as per NCF. It is defined as the setting for children between the age of 3 to 6 years, preparing them for formal education in Grade 1.
Here's a glimpse into what Bal Vatika offers:
Focus on holistic development:  Bal Vatika provides holistic development opportunities by providing experiences for cognitive, language, physical, social and emotional development that prepare them with the necessary basic concepts and skills required for later learning through a play-based approach.
Nurturing young minds: The program emphasizes creativity, exploration, and social interaction, laying a strong foundation for future learning.
Gentle introduction to school: Bal Vatika provides a safe and stimulating environment, easing a child's transition into formal schooling.

To take children well beyond Foundational Literacy and develop a genuine interest in independent reading, childrens’  literature skills would play a major role in the content for Language Education in the Preparatory Stage.
While the NEP 2020 is pushing for experiential learning process in the future, National Centre for Excellence does a lot to promote a hands-on learning approach within and outside their classrooms. Among many others things, these include:

    1. Conducting mock classroom trials and debates.
    2. Creating out-of-class community service opportunities for students.
    3. Using interactive learning apps to create an immersive and engaging environment, wherever they may be.
    4. Role-playing activities that replicate famous real-life events to help students memorize different people.
    5. Encouraging scientific experiments and open-minded questions to determine cause and effect.
    6. Creativity, Collaboration and Innovation in teaching and learning.

Experiential learning based pedagogy would continue to play a big role in the Preparatory Stage classroom.
Middle School: Exploring Diverse Horizons (Grades 6 to 8)
With the introduction of more concepts in each subject at this Stage, assessment will continue to be Competency-based,covering all dimensions of learning.
At this Stage, the focus of the curriculum moves to conceptual understanding and higher order capacities.
Therefore, classroom assessment techniques such as projects, debates, presentations, experiments, investigations, role plays, journals and portfolios should be used to assess learning.
Regular summative assessments at this stage will help students synthesize their learning at logical intervals (e.g., year-end, term-end, unit of learning-end). Summative assessments comprising multiple-choice questions and constructive responses (e.g., short answer, long answer)may be used periodically.

By the end of the Middle Stage, there should be a comprehensive summative assessment of student achievement of Competencies in each curricular area. The assessments should also be able to indicate special interest or inclination in specific curricular areas that students may have demonstrated.
