Visit to the new parliament

The faculty members of MPGS SN, visited the new parliament on 20th September 2023. A lifetime experience, which filled everyone with awe and wonder, on the occasion of what could be called a red- letter day in India's fight towards gender equality.

Lok Sabha, on Wednesday, passed the Women's Reservation Bill with 454 votes. The bill will grant 33% seats to women in Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.

Though one can see all the proceedings live on TV, to keep oneself apprised of what our elected members are doing. However, being there in the same space as they are, was an experience in itself.

Walking around the pillared corridor of the majestic building was an extraordinary experience. The place is grand with its broad corridor running around the building. Many galleries on the first floor of the house, above the hall where the parliament members sit were piece of marvel architecture.

It was magical to see many political leaders like Mr Amit Shah, Mr Raj Nath Singh, Ms. Nirmala Sitaraman, Ms Navneet Rana, Ms. Jaya Bachchan, Sashi Tharoor, Speaker Mr. Om Birla (lower house) and Vice President Shri Jagdeep Dhankar, Chairman (Rajya Sabha, the Upper house) debating for the bill. Indeed it was a memorable experience for all the faculty and they will cherish it forever.
