ASSESSMENT

The scholastic session is divided into two terms. The NCF 2024 advocates for continuous Formative Assessment to foster holistic development, critical thinking and problem solving  skills, providing timely feedback to enhance learning outcomes, promote inclusivity and reduce exam pressure.
Each term ends with a Written Summative Assessment. Marks obtained are recorded in the Result Card. Parents are expected to personally collect the Result Card of their wards on the Result Declaration Day
 Term 1:
Duration: April to September
Mid Term Summative Assessment: September
 TERM 2:
Duration: October to March
Final Summative Assessment : March
1. Apart from the Term Examinations total 16 scholastic Formative Assessments & 16 Co-Scholastic Formative Assessments will be conducted for the purpose of gradient learning, in the complete session. Of these tests, 8 scholastic Formative Assessments & 8 Co-Scholastic Formative Assessments will be in Term 1 and the other 8 scholastic Formative Assessments & 8 Co-Scholastic Formative Assessments in Term 2. The gradually increasing syllabus will prepare the students for appearing in the Final Written Assessment with 100% syllabus
2. Notebook submission would be a part of internal assessment. This would address the critical aspect of regularity, punctuality, neatness and notebook upkeep.
3. Subject Enrichment and experiential learning aimed at enhanced comprehension and skill development of specific subjects will be recorded internally through Co scholastic FAs.
EXAM SYSTEM
Navigating the path of progress, Formative Assessments serve a crucial purpose in educational practice.
Continuous formative assessments are essential for their role in providing frequent feedback to guide teaching and learning. It enables educators to tailor instruction to individual student needs, promoting personalized learning experiences. By integrating assessment seamlessly into the learning process, it reduces the pressure associated with high-stakes exams and creates a more supportive environment for student growth. Ultimately, it enhances learning outcomes by fostering a culture of ongoing improvement and ensuring that students receive timely support to achieve their full potential.

Balvatika: Laying the Foundation

Assessment needs to be a part of pedagogical practices and should be ‘on-the-go assessment’. Assessment will be based on the attainment of competencies leading to holistic development of all children. It will be done informally through continuous systematic observation of children’s participation in play and other activities. Efforts will be made to ensure that the age-specific expected learning outcomes for children in Balvatika are achieved by the end of the academic year. The experiences provided during the transaction of the curriculum will only be assessed.
There will not be any paper-pencil tests and examinations in Balvatika.
Types of Assessment : There will be two types of assessment that are appropriate for Balvatika, i.e., observation of the child and analyzing the artifacts that the child has produced as a part of their learning experiences.  This includes observational assessments, portfolios, and anecdotal records to track children's progress in various domains such as cognitive, socio-emotional, physical, and language development. Teachers use tools like the Holistic Progress Card to document and support each child's learning
In Balvatika, observation of the child’s behavior and responses during various play activities, e.g., through puzzles games, etc., will be done by the teachers

Preparatory: Transitioning with Confidence (Grades 3 to 5)
With the start of more formal learning across Curricular Areas, a robust system of formative assessment has been introduced  to track progress of individual students. Formative  assessment would act as an instructional tool  to provide a comprehensive account of student learning.
At the Preparatory Stage, in addition to observation of students and analysis of artifacts created by students, a variety of formative oral and written assessments have been introduced.
These assessments would test conceptual understanding and Competencies, and would include questions that encourage creativity.
Assessments Emphasizing Experiential Learning and Hands-on Practices are also conducted to evaluate students’ engagement and growth in Co- Scholastic areas.
