ASSESSMENT

Assessments in education are an integral part of the teaching learning process. It is important for informing students, parents, teachers, and schools about learning progress, guiding study efforts, evaluating effectiveness, sorting students, and making educational and career choices. They also have implications for efficiency, equity, and well-being.

FOUNDATIONAL STAGE:

At the Foundational Stage, Formative Assessments are conducted throughout the year. Odd weeks are dedicated to Scholastic Areas, while even weeks focus on Co-scholastic Areas.

Our assessment approach is designed to integrate seamlessly into the child’s learning experience, ensuring it adds no additional burden. We recognize that children learn and express themselves in diverse ways. Thus, we employ various assessment methods to measure Learning Outcomes and Competencies. Teachers are skilled in creating and implementing different assessments for the same Learning Outcome.

Key assessment methods include:

Observations of the child.

Analysing artifacts produced by the child as part of their learning journey.

Assessment results are systematically recorded and documented, utilizing Google Classroom, Google Sheets, and hard copies to provide comprehensive insights into each child’s progress.

PREPARATORY STAGE:

During the Preparatory Stage, Formative Assessments occur throughout the year, complemented by one Summative Assessment at the year’s end. Odd weeks assess Scholastic Areas, while even weeks cover Co-scholastic Areas.

Assessments are crafted to enhance learning without causing additional stress. From this stage, students become more aware of the Competencies they need to achieve, guided by their teachers. Various assessment methods are introduced, including written tests, to support learning.

Portfolios capture students’ progress holistically, offering reliable feedback to parents. Peer and Self-assessments help students track their learning journey. Systematic and descriptive documentation of progress is maintained using Google Classroom, Google Sheets, and hard copies.

MIDDLE STAGE:

In the Middle Stage, Formative Assessments are conducted year-round, with two Summative Assessments taking place in September and March. Odd weeks focus on Scholastic Areas, and even weeks on Co-scholastic Areas.

As more complex concepts are introduced, assessments remain Competency-based and encompass all learning dimensions. The curriculum shifts towards conceptual understanding and higher-order thinking. Diverse classroom assessment techniques, such as projects, debates, presentations, experiments, investigations, role plays, journals, and portfolios, are employed.

Regular Formative Assessments and two Summative Assessments ensure learning is synthesized at logical intervals. Summative assessments include multiple-choice questions and constructed responses. Comprehensive documentation of progress is maintained using Google Classroom, Google Sheets, and hard copies, ensuring a holistic view of student achievement in each curricular area.

SECONDARY STAGE:

At the Secondary Stage, particularly for classes IX and XI, the assessment framework prepares students thoroughly for board exams in classes X and XII.

For classes IX to XII:

Formative Assessments: Conducted throughout the academic year, with odd weeks dedicated to Scholastic Formative Assessment and even weeks to Formative Assessment dedicated to Experiential learning, problem solving, critical thinking etc. These provide ongoing feedback and support.

Key assessment methods for Even Assessments include:

Regular Tests and Quizzes
Assignments and Projects
Practical Exams
Oral Presentations and Viva Voce
Portfolios

Summative Assessments: Conducted at the end of each term to evaluate mastery of curriculum content, simulating board exam rigor.

Class Interventions: Prepare students for the board exam format and identify areas needing intervention and support.

Board Exam Preparation: Includes intensive revision sessions and class interventions.

Documentation and recording of assessments are systematic, utilizing Google Classroom, Google Sheets, and hard copies. This ensures accurate tracking of progress and provides valuable insights.

This comprehensive approach builds a strong academic foundation, enhances exam readiness, and ensures students are well-prepared for their board exams and future academic pursuits.
